Random Song Lyric Meme:
Step 1: Put your MP3 player or whatever on random.
Step 2: Post the first line(s) from the first 20 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song. (Skip the instrumentals, the remixes and the mashups)
Step 3: Let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Talk about a random assortment of songs. I'm pretty big on variety. This mix is from putting my ipod on random:

So guess away! Post the name of the song and artist along with the number in my comments section. As the songs are correctly guessed, I will mark them off and indicate the first person to correctly name the song (along with a link to your blog or website if you include that information with your comment).
Edit: I forgot to tag anyone! I'm tagging Sheila, Nina, Tracey, Jonathan, lisachelle and Lola! ...but if it doesn't work with your format, guys, I totally understand. ;)
The problem with guessing games nowadays is you can put the lyrics in google and search - but I shall not, I promise. The first two that popped out at me were "These Boots Were Made For Walkin" and "Freedom 90" which I'm slightly embarrassed to admit I have downloaded as well and ... um ... you know ... like. Yes, I like "Freedom 90" sue me. The other ones I recognize are "Son of a Preacher Man", "Somebody to Love", " and of course, "The Lady is a Tramp."
ReplyDeleteThat's five. Some of the others look familiar as well but I can't place them right now.
And thanks for the tag. It's not a Cinema Styles thing but it would certainly fit on Syncfish. Problem is I have all my downloads categorized in separate folders so random only works for one artist at a time but I'll figure out something.
Thanks for maintaining the integrity of the game. I know people CAN, but I figure it goes without saying that the whole purpose would be defeated by that.
ReplyDeleteGood calls, all - particularly pleased that you got The Lady is a Tramp. I linked your "credit" to Syncfish, which I had not checked out perviously. Loving that "Oscar Party" circa the 1950's art! Totally call girls.
Lessee....
ReplyDelete#7: Rockin' Robin - Michael Jackson, but I think it was a remake...
#14: Tainted Love - Soft Cell
#19: Blue - Don't know who sings it. Some one hit wonder, no doubt...
#20: Fairy Tale of New York - The Pogues (gotta love Shane MacGowan)
Oh...
ReplyDeleteand #16: Kiss Off - Violent Femmes
Totally overlooked it!
Hiya! First time commenter, here...
ReplyDelete#18 is "Redemption Song" by Bob Marley, which I also have on my ipod!
Hello and welcome, Nerka! So tickled you were able to place that - I was worried no one would because the verses are not as recognizable to a lot of people as the tune and the chorus.
ReplyDeleteAaaaah. I can't believe I missed these recently identified ones. Rockin Robin, Tainted Love. It's weird, but without knowing what music to put to the words sometimes even the most recognizable songs seem unfamiliar.
ReplyDeleteI know! That really does make it tricky.
ReplyDelete#9 is from a classic film and if I give ANY MORE of the beginning then it's absurdly obvious... but without the tune - Do-dee-do-do-Do-dee-do-de-doo-doo doesn't mean much! ;)
#9!! "Singin' in the Rain"!! Doo-dee-do-do ...
ReplyDeleteHow did I miss that? Singin in the Rain? Aaarrrgghhh.
ReplyDeleteI know #11 is Regina Spektor but I'm not sure of the title. Is it "These Words"? Cute song.
ReplyDeleteNot that I've heard the song all the way through, but I'll take a stab at #5: "White and Nerdy" by Weird Al Yankovic?
I have half the money saved for an iPod and I can hardly wait!
1 New Slang by the Shins and 4 is Lotion by the Greenskeepers.
ReplyDeleteMarisa -- "Singin' in the Rain" is my favorite musical! It's the perfect pick-me-up movie.
ReplyDeleteAlso first- time commenter, great post idea!
ReplyDeleteI had two that lept out at me...and I googled #3, but I shan't reveal it....
The one's I got were #15 - Elton John! and the title is "I Want Love" I believe...
also - #17 - Fiona Apple!! I think this is "Extraordinary Machine" -"if there was a better way to go than it would find me..." I love that line!
Excellent! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE #3 but no one's going to get it because it's one of those songs where you have NO IDEA what the guy is singing!
