Ben Lee
More cheerful music goodness. Mostly because I don't have anything to post about. And because he was on Leno (I'm a Dave girl, myself) and I was flipping past and heard this song and was transfixed. Maybe it's the Aussie in me. I don't know.
The video is awesome. And Tiffani-Amber Thiessen is in it. How random is that? I love random.

Wow! So many references packed into a single video--even the cat climbing out of the pot on the stove (I was a serious ALF fan as a kid)!
ReplyDeleteI've always liked Ben Lee, even when he was writing odes to Claire Danes. Nice girl, but I don't think she deserved him.
I KNOW. I loved the Alf thing. I was a big Alf fan as well.
ReplyDeleteI really hadn't seen much of Ben Lee before this (other than the mentions of his name next to Claire Danes during those years), but he really got my attention with this and I want to hear more!
Dear Dame
ReplyDeleteIf you're going to look further at Ben Lee's music, check out his album "Awake is the New Sleep" and if you're after happy music try track 4 "Catch my disease".
An Aussie Lurker
Thanks A.L.! I have a few lurkers in your neck of the woods and it's nice to hear from one of you! I always wonder if Aussie readers found me due to random chance or because I've mentioned my Australian heritage on here.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recommendation - I'll have to check out the album. It's always nice to have a starting place when you're exploring the music of an artist who's new to you.
Dear Dame
ReplyDeleteIf you're in the mood for some new music I have to come out of 'lurkdom' one more time to introduce you to my current fave Australian albums (if you haven't come across them already). Josh Pyke's debut album "Memories and Dust" has some compelling and beautiful tracks, while Bob Evans' "Surburban Songbook" has a bit of a "Cheers" feel to it - particularly the hidden track (Track 12).
I will now become a lurker again - thanks for your blog. I can't remember how I stumbled across it here in Brisbane but I enjoy it!
Aussie Lurker
Oh, yeah, I have "Awake Is the New Sleep"--"Catch My Disease" is more upbeat than the other tracks. . . they're a bit zen. Seriously, he mentions zen stuff on his liner notes.
ReplyDeleteI think he and Claire Danes went together for quite a while. The song "Pop Queen" is about her. I'm not sure how they met up. They were very young; I guess they grew up together and then grew apart. And that's about all I know!
